Motocross racing future
Motosport Yamaha is foreseeing great things for new race team member, Jake Avenell.
Jake joined our race team at the end of the 2011 race season and raced under our colours for the first time in Mareeba on 29 January 2012.
He has been racing since he was about eight years old - so he has nearly a decade of racing experience already.
Over the years he has specialised in Motocross racing and wants to take that as far as he can. Currently he races in the Light Championship classification.
At the moment, Jake works on his own bikes after picking up his mechanical skills by working with fellow motorcycle racers over the years. During 2009 and 2010 he had a sponsor who looked after his bikes, but that deal ended when he moved on from a particular brand of bike.
Jake said, "My parents also sponsor me through their business, Turnell Security Services NQ, and that is a great help with my racing costs."
Jake is currently an apprentice at Nu-Lite Aluminium in Townsville and works with fellow Motosport Yamaha sponsored rider, Brendan Grinham.
